Named for its color and, it is said, the resemblance of its petal
to a woman's sunbonnet, the bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas. It blooms
in the early spring and can be readily found in fields and along the roadsides
throughout central and south Texas.

Wild Texas Mexican Hats
The Mexican Hat is one of our most common flowers. They bloom in Texas, Minnesota, to from Montana to Louisiana, and Mexico. They bloom from March to November. The Mexican Hat can grow from 1 to even 4 feet tall. The flowers can be seen in many different colors such as red, yellow, orange, or brown. Sometimes the flowers blend and cause mixed colors like reddish- brown or yellow splotched with orange. You can find Mexican Hat growing in all types of soils.

Wild Texas Swamp Sunflowers
The Swamp Sunflower blooms in the fall and grows in colonies in moist soil. The yellow flowers have a dark center and are two inches in diameter. The usual height is 1.5 feet, but some plants are able to bunch into a bouquet 6 feet tall. This is an excellent background plant for the garden and does especially well in a bog garden. The Latin name angustifolius refers to the narrow leaves.
