Posted March 21st, 2009 by Stu Beitler
THREE BOYS KILLED WHEN CAVE COLLAPSES.

Anaheim, Calif., Feb. 23 (AP) -- Three boys were killed yesterday when a cave they were digging in an embankment collapsed.
Buried under tons of earth were LARRY JOSEPH SCHARER, 12; STEPHEN WAYNE JONES, 10, and WILLIAM DAVID BARRON, 7.
BILLY HUSHMAN, 10, who was digging with the others in a bank of dirt at a freeway project, went home about 1 p.m. to get a shovel.
When he returned, he found the cave obliterated.

The Bean Hut of Anaheim

The Bean Hut was a drive-in fast-food joint located in Anaheim on Anaheim Boulevard. During the 1950s and 1960s, it was the place for local youth to hang out and be seen, kinda like Mel's Drive In on the Happy Days sitcom.

This place was before my time, but had heard other people talk about it. It's a dentist office now.

"A Blast From The Past"

OUR FAMOUS RESTAURANT IN THE 50'S

O My, Yes Armstrong's the place to go after the Anaheim High School Football games.
An old Fifties Jukebox, I can remember playing Canadian Sunset.
Wonderful Hamburgers Fries and Col Slaw .65cent.
Big huge jumbo fried shrimp breaded to order .85 cent.
Very nice Choc. Milkshakes so thick you would have to eat with a spoon.
French Fries Potatoes were made daily cut by hand from raw patois.
All burgers were grilled not Charbroiled.
Even there T-Bone Steaks were grilled.
Ice Cream came from Excelsior Ice Cream Company in Santa Ana.
They would use 300lbs of raw patois/week.
Armstrong's would closed every summer for two weeks.
Friday nights the line of customers would be around the block for dinner.
The restaurant only seated 85/time.
The Chef's name was Bill.
Armstrong's was located on Center Street, before they rename it Lincoln Ave.
I can remember Armstrong's between 1951 to 1960's.
I would like to hear more comments on Armstrong's Restaurant too.

I remember Armstrong's also, the great burgers and the big hand full of fries the cook would throw on the plate.
I went with my parents in the early sixties. We lived in Garden Grove. Years later I was the Store manager of Ole's Home Center on Lincoln and Brook Hurst. The old Lin-Brook Hardware .com

Yes, I remember the french fries filled a brown lunch bag. I still remember what a great place Anaheim was to be a kid.

I ran in to Mrs. Armstrong years later and she regretted closing the business.
